Their sacrifices should never be forgotten and the passage of time should never diminish the role of Ukrainian Canadian veterans in defending the democratic principles we hold dear. The Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Fund supports programming that commemorates the past and memorializes the lives that were lost while promoting the contribution of the Ukrainian community in Canada to a multicultural Canada.Remembrance Day 2020Every year Ukrainian Canadians gather at the Ukrainian Canadian Memorial Park in Toronto to remember those who served and fell in the service of their country, both here in Canada and in Ukraine. Organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress-Toronto Branch together with the Ukrainian War Veterans Association of Canada, and funded by the Shevchenko Foundation, Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Fund, the November Remembrance Day ceremony is commemorated with the attendance of Ukrainian and Canadian veterans, currently serving soldiers, and the community.With this in mind, the Toronto Ukrainian Canadian Congress, in consultation with the Royal Canadian Legion and Toronto Public Health, endeavored and was successful in holding a limited and safe Remembrance Day 2020 commemoration with all the protocols while respecting the traditions and significance of Remembrance Day. Although the community was unable to participate, it was able to view the entire ceremony, which was streamed online, as well as excellently reported and televised on Ukrainian TV programs Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Toronto BranchThis year, due to the world-wide pandemic of the Covid-19 virus, a unique challenge was presented for our Ukrainian community and its veterans to come together.
