A recently retired lawyer, Halyna Perun was most recently a Legal Director overseeing a 70 member legal team and part of senior management committees serving Deputy Ministers and Ministers at the ministries of Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure in Ontario.

In her over thirty year career with the Ontario Public Service, Halyna provided strategic and legal advice to government on an array of complex governance and operational issues. Her earlier legal career was spent in Ontario’s Ministry of Health where she worked on several seminal pieces of legislation including landmark health privacy and consent to treatment statutes. She has been recognized for her leadership, management skills, collaboration, and mentoring.

Halyna is also on the board of Toronto’s  St. Vladimir Institute, a 46-room residence for Canadian and foreign students; a cultural centre; and a community hub.  A first generation Ukrainian-Canadian, Halyna has been a life-long active volunteer in several Ukrainian Canadian organizations and is a current choir member with the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Halyna joined the Shevchenko Foundation board of directors in 2021.
