The Shevchenko Foundation-sponsored production and premiere of my Terry Sawchuk documentary, “Made in Winnipeg: The Terry Sawchuk Origin Story” took place on September 26th, 2016 in Winnipeg. The film and event were resounding successes.
The concept was to premiere the film, dedicated to one of hockey’s greatest goalies, on the ice surface of the arena that bears his name in Winnipeg. The arena was literally packed to the rafters, with over eight hundred in attendance, and, in addition to the half-hour film projected onto a 30′ wide screen, there were special performances of music from the film and an opportunity to meet special guests (and film subjects) Jerry and Terrance Sawchuk (Terry’s sons) – who attended from Detroit. The night was a personal career highlight and a once-in-a-lifetime event for the Ukrainian community and hockey fans. The film will soon be available worldwide via the Detroit Red Wings website and museum.
The Shevchenko Foundation was the primary sponsor of the film and the premiere, for which I am eternally grateful.
