b'Heritage Creatively ExpressedDayna Konopelny, a designer based in Toronto, Ontario, was the 2023 recipient of the REACH Mentorship/Residency for the Arts. The $30,000 prize will support Daynas participation in the Fashion Zone incubator program at Toronto Metropolitan University. As the founder and owner of the fashion brand Emilka Kono, Dayna elevates beloved Ukrainian cultural textiles, sustainably repurposing them into everyday streetwear.The REACH Mentorship/Residency for the Arts was created by the Ihnatowycz Family Foundationin partnership with the Shevchenko Foundation to support emerging artists in reaching for theircareer dreams. Daynas brand allows us all to express pride in our Ukrainian heritage in a creative and practical way. Her pieces act as conversation starters and connectors, reaching well beyond the Ukrainian-Canadian community.
