March 9th marks the 207th anniversary of the birth of our namesake, Ukraine’s greatest poet – Taras Shevchenko.
Every March, since 2001, the Shevchenko Foundation has commemorated his work by engaging Canadian artists of Ukrainian heritage in interpreting the poetry of Shevchenko and distributing over 30,000 bookmarks to donors, Ukrainian language schools, dance groups, and youth organizations across Canada. With these collectible bookmarks, we share the poetic legacy of Shevchenko and the creative talent of our artists.
Now in its 20th year, this souvenir art reproduction has become a collector’s item for many. The Shevchenko Foundation congratulates Valeriy Semenko for his winning submission of artwork for the 2021 Shevchenko Foundation bookmark.
