On September 30 we, as Canadians, come together to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

The Shevchenko Foundation recognizes the enduring effects of residential schools in Canada, and we are grateful to the Survivors, their families and communities, for sharing their stories with us. Their truth helps us learn and recognize our responsibility to ensure that the needs of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples are addressed in an environment of peace, harmony, and compassion.

The Indigenous Peoples have a shared history with Ukrainians in Canada. We also have a shared future. Together, we will build a stronger Canada and a better world in which the fundamental rights to freedom and dignity are genuinely respected and one’s culture can never be erased.
