The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko (Shevchenko Foundation) is pleased
to announce the appointment of three new members of the Canadian First World War
Internment Recognition Fund (CFWWIRF) Endowment Council.

Boris Balan (Toronto), First Vice-President of the Shevchenko Foundation, is appointed the
Foundation’s representative to the Council. Boris is the Vice President of Development with
Northland Power. He has a wide range of community involvement, including serving as Vice
President of the Shevchenko Foundation for over ten years.

Paul Migus (Ottawa) joins the Council as the representative appointed by the Ukrainian
Canadian Congress (UCC). He is the President of LGT Executive Performance Inc, with
decades-long senior-level public service administration with the Government of Canada and
service within the Ukrainian Canadian community.

The third new Council member, Roman Zakaluzny has been appointed by the Ukrainian
Canadian Civil Liberties Association, which he currently chairs. He works as Communications
Advisor for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Ottawa.

The Shevchenko Foundation Board of Directors wishes to thank outgoing CFWWIRF
Endowment Council Chair Andriy Harasymiw (Edmonton) for his contributions to the Council
as representative of UCCLA, as well as outgoing Council representatives Andriy Hladyshevsky,
Q.C. (Shevchenko Foundation), Alexandra Chyczij (UCC) and Dr. Lubomyr Luciuk (UCCLA).
The Shevchenko Foundation initiated a Call for Submissions for the position of Chair of the
CFWWIRF Endowment Council in early July, 2020, and is expected to fill that position in
September, 2020. Boris Balan will act as Interim Chair.

In May 2008, a Funding Agreement was entered into between the Government of Canada and
the Shevchenko Foundation. In establishing the CFWWIRF, the Government of Canada
designated the Shevchenko Foundation to ensure compliance with the Funding Agreement,
which includes the financial stewardship and administration of the Fund. The capital of this
Fund must remain at $10M, and only the interest earned from the capital can be used to provide
grants for projects that commemorate and recognize the experiences of all the ethno-cultural
communities affected by Canada’s first national internment operations of 1914-1920.
