We’re pleased to present the 2024 Taras Shevchenko Commemorative Bookmark designed by Toronto artist Denys Golden.
As the world marks 210 years since the birth of Taras Shevchenko on March 9, 1814, we honour our namesake – Ukrainian national poet and artist – with an original bookmark that has become a long-standing tradition. The unique art pieces celebrate the beauty of our Ukrainian culture while recognizing its ongoing contribution to world culture.
This year’s inspiring design titled “Light the world of truth” reminds us that we, too, can be this light of truth, as referenced in Taras Shevchenko’s poem Subotiv, that the world so desperately needs during these challenging times in which we live.
Thousands of copies of the annual bookmark are distributed at no cost as educational tools to children across Canada who are enrolled in Ukrainian language classes in public, private, and Saturday schools. The bookmark is also distributed to all Ukrainian dance schools, children and youth ensembles, and youth organizations.
Marking our milestone anniversary, we renew our commitment to light the world of truth by sharing the beauty and passion of our culture for all to embrace.

Denys Golden is a Toronto-based artist born and educated in Ukraine. Denys works with many different media and elements of visual art. His style is structured, yet bold and expressive with influences from his architectural studies. Straight lines appear to be in motion leading us to the depths of our imagination.
