““Sport is a unifying force that builds community while providing a platform for cultural expression. The Shevchenko Foundation is proud to support the historic exhibition Ukrainian Football: The Game Goes On that promotes our national identity and ignites the inspirational community spirit that brings us together in common purpose.” – Boris Balan, TSF President

The Shevchenko Foundation is proud to have supported the exhibit Ukrainian Football: The Game Goes On hosted in early June at the Ukrainian National Federation (UNF) Toronto Community Centre.
From June 4-10 the Ukrainian community in Toronto and the GTA experienced the excitement of football as the Ukrainian national team arrived in the city to participate in the Canadian Shield Tournament.
Ukraine was one of four teams that played friendly matches at the city’s BMO Field in the lead-up to next year’s FIFA World Cup.
On June 6 Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) President Andriy Shevchenko addressed the Bay Street Breakfast for Ukraine that raised over $300,000 for the CUF-UCC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
The exhibit was the initiative of the UAF and showcased the history of football in Ukraine and the successes of the Ukrainian National Team. Promenently featured was a tribute to defenders of Ukraine, and the contribution of the Association and individual footballers to the war effort including a poignant tribute to those who have lost their lives in battle.
The national team joined by a UAF delegation led by Andriy Shevchenko took the time between matches to engage with the community. A public meet and greet with the Ukrainians was held on June 4.
We invite you to scroll through the gallery below to see parts of the exhibit and the awestruck faces of the inspired young football enthusiasts.
Congratulations to UNF Toronto for hosting the exhibit and related events!
