Principal Donors

TSF appreciates every donation and values every donor for their faith in our work. After all, our success is your legacy.

However, we gratefully acknowledge the significant and generous gifts of our principal donors who have contributed at least one million dollars to TSF either through donations or gifts in their wills.

We are humbled by their generosity and grateful for their partnership. As pivotal forces, their faith in our mission empowers us to make an even greater impact. Our community can confidently build for the future while more artists can creatively share our story.

Our special thank you for inspiring the spirit of philanthropy!

TEMERTY FOUNDATION

The Temerty Foundation and its founders, James and Louise Temerty, have been long-standing benefactors of TSF. In 2014, the Temerty Foundation established The Shevchenko Foundation Temerty Community Development Fund with a $5M donation. The Temerty Community Development Fund supports individuals and organizations with projects that nurture a common identity and strengthen institutions for a vibrant and flourishing Ukrainian Canadian community. The Fund also supports the many cultural festivals that take place across Canada throughout the summer.

BORIS HORODYNSKY FOUNDATION

The Boris Horodynsky Foundation was established by Canadian businessman, philanthropist, and patron of Ukrainian Canadian culture, Boris Horodynsky. The Foundation supports health and wellness, and the development of literary and visual arts in local communities. Expressing his love and appreciation for music, Boris Horodynsky donated $1M to TSF in 2014 to establish The Shevchenko Foundation Boris Horodynsky Music Fund. The Fund supports individuals and organizations across Canada working in all forms of traditional, classical, and new music in Canada, influenced by Ukrainian heritage.

ZENA KOSSAR ESTATE

Leon and Zena Kossar believed that Canada’s strength lay in its diverse multicultural communities. In 1969 they founded the annual Metro International Caravan, a popular week-long festival that showcased the cultural traditions of Toronto’s diverse communities, forever changing the face of the city. Leon and Zena also shared a love for music, particularly Ukrainian liturgical and choral music. The Shevchenko Foundation Leon and Zena Kossar Music Fund was established in 2021 with a gift from the estate of the late Zena Kossar to honour the passion of its benefactors in perpetuity. The Fund supports projects that help generations celebrate their identity through the power of music.

PAWLO LYCHKUN FARM ESTATE

Pawlo Lychkun was a Manitoba farmer who greatly valued the community’s work with youth. As a result, he gifted his estate for the collective benefit of three provincial organizations – Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM), Plast Ukrainian Youth Association, and Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association (SUMK). Upon the sale of the assets that were not to be divided, the three organizations invested the proceeds with TSF in 2020, establishing The Shevchenko Foundation Pawlo Lychkun Memorial Fund from which they will benefit in perpetuity.
