On September 30 we, as Canadians, come together to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
A decade since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action, we continue to learn and recognize our responsibility to listen, collaborate, and build partnerships.
The Shevchenko Foundation recognizes the enduring effects of residential schools in Canada, and we are grateful to the Survivors, their families and communities, for sharing their stories with us. Their truth helps us to address the needs of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples in an environment of peace, harmony, and compassion.
While the Indigenous Peoples have a shared history with Ukrainians in Canada, we also have a shared future. Together, we will build a stronger Canada and a better world in which the fundamental rights to freedom and dignity are genuinely respected and one’s culture can never be erased.
