In loving memory of Anne (Mysyk) Wach, 96 years who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Holy Family Nursing Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Anne was predeceased by loving parents John (Ivan) and Katherine (Kotyk) Mysyk, husband Peter, sons George and John, sister Ollia Mysyk Rohatyn (Walter), cousin Michael Myssyk (Olga), in-laws George and Ahaphia (Buck) Wach, Mary, Anastasia (John Kozoriz), Ann, Kay, Harry (Kathryn), Elsie, and numerous relatives across Canada, USA, and Ukraine.
She is survived by brother Walter Mysyk (Mary). Anne was the loving mother of Catherine (Ken Dueck), Nadine (partner John), Helene (partner Bruce), daughter-in-law Gail. She treasured her grandchildren Taras (Dana), Ian Dueck (Lorraine Carrette), Larysa, Natalia and Olana; great grandchildren, Olivia and Kaylee Wach, Zoey and Jacob Dueck, step great grandchildren Kaden and Brooklyn Wach, Goddaughter Oksana Rohatyn Wasylyk (Stefan deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and USA.
Anne was born in Turynka, Sokil Province, Lvivska Oblast, Ukraine on June 13, 1924. In 1929 her father Ivan emigrated to Canada to establish a farm home in Eatonia, near Kindersley, SK. In 1934, Anne, with her mother and sister Ollia were able to join him in Canada. Brother Walter was born May 24, 1935. At the age of 14 Mom moved to Saskatoon to go to school. It was in Saskatoon that she was first introduced to the Ukrainian National Federation (UNF) and her commitment grew into a lifetime passion. In 1944 after attending summer school courses conducted by the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre (Oseredok) she decided to move to Winnipeg.
Mom held various executive positions and actively participated in the Ukrainian Women’s Organization (UWO), Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Kalyna Cooperative, Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre, the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko and the World Congress of Free Ukrainians. She was an original member of the UNF Choir, which later adopted the name O. Koshetz Choir. From 1986-1999, she edited “Zhinochyj Svit” or “Women’s World”. For her commitment and hard work through the years Mom received several community awards and honourary life memberships.
Mom met Peter, her future husband, at a dance dedicated to returning servicemen. This meeting soon blossomed into a romance and they were wed in 1948 at Holy Eucharist Parish of which they were members for most of their lives.
Mom and Dad both loved to travel, visiting many places in the world, including a number of trips to Ukraine for Mom. They would often join her children on some of their excursions.
Due to Covid 19, Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by invite only. Live streaming can be found at www.holyeucharist.ca/LiveStream on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Fr. Michael Kwiatkowski and Fr. Andrew Wach. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Taras Wach, Bryan Haswell, Paul Haswell, Daniel Sirski, Jonathon Sirski and Leslie Mitchnik.
