Shevchenko Foundation congratulates Anna Marie Koszarycz for her winning submission of artwork for the 2020 Shevchenko Foundation bookmark, based on the chosen literary excerpt from Taras Shevchenko’s poem Огні, горять…”/ “Fires burn…”.

Over 35,000 bookmarkers will be printed and distributed across Canada to Ukrainian language schools, dance schools and youth organizations. Donors to Shevchenko Foundation will also be receiving the bookmarker as a token of our appreciation!

Calgary artist Anna-Marie Koszarycz (Marusia Kryschuk) is the great granddaughter of Ukrainian immigrants, member of the Ukrainian Youth Association and Shumka Ukrainain Dancers, and a folklore enthusiast. Having achieved a BA, BEd., and MMus, she has taught at Ukrainian Bilingual Programs, Sadochok, elementary school music, and Early Childhood Music (Kodaly] at Mount Royal University. She is a life long chorister, having also recorded with Spiritus Chamber Choir, and Luminous Voices. As well as painting with acrylics, under master iconographer tutelage, Anna-Marie produced a triptych of the Deisis in egg tempera for the family’s ancestral church
