untitled-1Shevchenko Foundation offers Writers’ Scholarships at the 25th Anniversary of the Creative Writing

Workshop by Humber School for Writers during IFOA (International Festival of Authors) Sunday October 23 – Friday October 28 2016 at Harbourfront in Toronto

The Shevchenko Foundation offers two Kobzar Writers’ Scholarships at the Humber School for Writers’ creative writing workshop during the International Festival of Authors at Harbourfront in Toronto from Sunday October 23 to Friday October 28 2016. These full tuition scholarships are awarded annually to Canadian writers whose narratives develop with a Ukrainian Canadian theme and are intended to assist the writers to complete their work for publication.

Deadline for applications September 26, 2016.

For details, please visit Humber’s website at humber.ca/scapa/ifoa

The workshop consists of a Sunday afternoon reception, five weekday classes from 10am to 1pm, a lunch break (on your own) from 1 to 2 pm, and afternoon lectures. Some evening events are also scheduled, and the IFOA runs dozens of author readings and talks, many of them free to Humber workshop participants. The workshop costs $849.

To apply for the Kobzar Writer’s Scholarship, please state prominently your intent in the cover letter of your application. Because competition for scholarships is high, applicants must provide a statement explaining their financial situation, some proof of need, and a credit card number. Please include two identical copies (no more than 15 pages each) of an excerpt from your work of non-fiction, fiction, poetry or play for assessment. Please ensure that pages are numbered, double-spaced in 12-point font, and that your name appears on each page. Include two copies of a cover letter that tells a little about yourself and your writing. Complete the application form found on the website.

The Kobzar Writers’ Scholarships are offered to Canadian writers whose narrative develops a Canadian Ukrainian theme.
